Every year, the Governor of New Jersey declares October to be Pinelands Month. On the first Sunday of October, PPA signals the start of Pinelands Month with its Pinelands Discovery Festival festival. Other organizations put on numerous festivals, tours, presentations and events during October. See our Pinelands Month Calendar for all the activities you can enjoy.
This festival combines interesting exhibits, good food, great tours and talks with fun activities and music. Held in the unique setting of Whitesbog Historic Village this festival is educational and entertaining and contains something of interest for most people.
During the day the visitor can see a rehabilitated bird released into the wild and watch turtles and snakes up close. They can tag monarch butterflies or take part in a stream study. They can take part in wagon rides and walking tours and visit interesting exhibits and a variety of food vendors.
We are looking for exhibitors that fit into the theme of Pinelands and the environment. If you are an educator, a watershed association, a land trust or a group involved with Pinelands preservation, you should exhibit at this event.
We also seek vendors selling interesting and different crafts, jewelry, food or books. If you create Pinelands themed items or publications you should exhibit at our event.
This event relies totally on volunteer help to make it happen. We welcome people who can give time in the organization of this event as well as during the day itself.
This event is not a fundraising event for the Pinelands Preservation Alliance. We welcome all the support we can get in term of financial contributions or the donation of pro-bono services and in-kind materials.
If you are interested in any aspect of Pinelands Month, please contact Barbara Solem Stull who is generously volunteering her time to help us organize this event and the month of events that will succeed it.
