    Cranberry Living History Day

    Visit the village’s museums and historic landscapes, pick cranberries, take a wagon ride and more! The Village will come alive with workers and residents from the 1920’s. Join them in their daily activities.

    Visit Suningive, the home of the “Blueberry Queen” and share some cake for Elizabeth's Birthday.

    This trip begins at Quaker Bridge on the Batsto River. You’ll explore on water and land while learning about Pine Barrens habitats, history, plants and animals. Once on the river we’ll make stops along the way to investigate unique Pine Barrens plants along the river’s edge, learn about the role of fire in Pine Barrens ecology, and history of bog iron in the pines. This trip ends at Batsto Lake.

    $60 Per Person (includes canoe or kayak), $50 Per Person (bring your own canoe or kayak). Ages 8 and up.

    John McPhee Pine Barrens Today Tour---Small Bus Tour

    Join Pinelands Adventures on a small group driving tour to visit many places described in John McPhee’s landmark book The Pine Barrens. While most of the characters that McPhee profiled have since passed on many years ago, many of the places he wrote about have remained largely unchanged. They’ve remained that way in large part because McPhee’s book challenged citizens and political leaders to find a way to protect the unique Pine Barrens ecosystem and culture from development that loomed on the horizon at the time. Participants in this tour will travel by van making stops and taking short hikes at places like Paisley, Apple Pie Hill, Hog Wallow and the Forks on the Mullica.

    $60 Per Person. Guide is John Volpa, Director of Education for Pinelands Adventures

    A free, family float festival at Smithville Park!

    Canoe/Kayak on the Rancocas Creek or Smithville Lake and see the fall foliage as you float along. Residents decorate their docks and hope to win your vote as you float! Launching takes place at Historic Smithville Park.

    Paddlers will be shuttled back to Smithville Park for food, entertainment and activities for all ages. Enjoy the park on a fun-filled Autumn day!

    Country Living Fair

    Visitors will have an opportunity to see and purchase a variety of country, colonial and Victorian crafts. They will also be able to meet talented crafters demonstrating their artistry in a wide assortment of materials.

    A blacksmith will be showing his craft in the Batsto Blacksmith Shop. Pre-World War II cars will be on display. Old-time steam engines, antiques, farm equipment and pony rides will help make this an event of special interest to people of all ages.

    Various 4-H groups will be available to display their animals and discuss their experiences as a member of a 4-H club. Children will be able to enjoy the petting farm animals of Barnyard Friends from Dorothy, NJ.

    Animal rescue groups will bring various breeds of dogs hoping to be adopted.

    Batsto Village is located approximately 7 miles east of Hammonton on Route 542 and about 15 miles west of the Garden State Parkway. Further information may be obtained by calling the Batsto Visitor Center at (609) 561-0024. There is a fee of $5 per car.

    The Pine Barrens of New Jersey contain more ghost towns, some say, than the entire American west. The Pinelands of today with its pristine woodlands and unique plant and animal communities, is a very different place than the busy industrial center it once was several hundred years ago. Barbara Solem, author of Ghost Towns and Other Quirky Places in the New Jersey Pine Barrens, will take participants on a tour of many of the forgotten industrial towns that once thrived in the Pine Barrens.

    Come explore the village and the bogs by moon light, this special opportunity is scheduled on or as close to the full moon as possible.

    An experienced guide will share insights about Whitesbog and the nature that surrounds us with a different topic each month. Meet your guide in the General Store before the start time and look around prior to the start.

    Spooky Lantern Tour and Campfire Storytelling

    Enjoy a haunted history tour and choose your adventure.

    Haunted Lantern Tour, past the cottages, through the museum, into the woods along the Holly Trail, starting promptly at 7 pm at the General Store, walkers will be on their feet, over some rough terrain, old houses, in the woods!

    Scary Stories and Music around the Campfire and Jersey Devil tales with banjo and fiddle, starts at 8 pm.

    Haunted Wagon Ride to the Bog and Back with the Pinelands Antique Engine Association tractor drivers, wagon rides will start around 7:00 and loop every half hour or so, last wagon at 8:30 pm. Cider, hot chocolate and apple cider donuts in the vintage Halloween decorated General Store.

    Hike for the moderate skill level hikers ages 8+ (call to assess if appropriate younger hikers), through wooded trails, over tree roots and through old, uneven floored and dusty buildings, wearing long pants and closed toe shoes recommended.

    Scare Factor: Old Fashioned Spooky, Creepy, Scary, Spiders, Old Farm, Woods, Things That Go Bump in the Night, not Terrifying.

    Our historians and guides will lead intrepid visitors through some of our historic buildings, farm outbuildings and trails by lantern light at night in Whitesbog. $10/person, $8 each for members, not for the faint of heart.
