John McPhee Pine Barrens Today Tour--- Small Bus Tour

Participants meet at Pinelands Adventures, 1005 Atsion Road, Shamong, NJ

    event thumbnail

Join Pinelands Adventures on a small group driving tour to visit many places described in John McPhee’s landmark book The Pine Barrens. While most of the characters that McPhee profiled have since passed on many years ago, many of the places he wrote about have remained largely unchanged. They’ve remained that way in large part because McPhee’s book challenged citizens and political leaders to find a way to protect the unique Pine Barrens ecosystem and culture from development that loomed on the horizon at the time. Participants in this tour will travel by van making stops and taking short hikes at places like Paisley, Apple Pie Hill, Hog Wallow and the Forks on the Mullica.

$60 Per Person. Guide is John Volpa, Director of Education for Pinelands Adventures

Pre-registration is required at www.PinelandsAdventures.org or call 609-268-0189.

In 2017 alone two pipelines projects were approved for the Pinelands and over 12 more projects are under consideration in New Jersey. Governor Christie's antics at the Pinelands Commission have weakened the agency and left a door open for future gas companies to try and build pipelines in the Pinelands. With a new governor being sworn in in January, this webinar will look at where we go from here. How do we address the climate crisis and the pipeline expansion that is threatening open spaces in New Jersey? Hear from Pinelands Preservation Alliance Policy Advocate Katie Smith and Food & Water Watch Organizer Lena Smith about what's to come for the Pinelands and New Jersey's energy future. Learn what you can do to take action at the local level to build the clean energy revolution!
