    Blueberry Cultivation Demonstration at Historic Whitesbog Village

    Visit the birthplace of the commercial blueberry and learn by doing! Joseph Darlington, our farmer and the grand nephew of Miss Lizzy will teach about cultivation in our classroom, then lead the group into the original triangle test field.

    Historic Whitesbog Village is located in Brendan Byrne State Forest. Whitesbog was the largest cranberry farm in New Jersey in the early 1900’s and is also the place where the highbush blueberry was first successfully cultivated.

    The Whitesbog Preservation Trust leases Whitesbog Village from the State of New Jersey in an innovative partnership agreement that supports the Trust’s mission to restore, protect and enhance the land, historic sites and buildings and to provide educational materials and interpretive programs about the history, culture and natural environment of Whitesbog.

    Full Moon Hike at Bass River State Forest

    Fee: $3 per person. Pre-registration required. Limit 25 people.

    Bring a flashlight and insect repellent. Participants must be 8 years of age or older.
