The Pine Barrens is not particularly rich in ferns, but it does have several prominent and beautiful species.
Ferns are vascular plants that reproduce by means of spores. (The so-called “fern-allies” share these characteristics, but are not closely related.) Fortunately, we have here several very different kinds of ferns, and the diversity provides a very worthwhile field of investigation.
