Habitat: Wetlands. Damp, open, sandy barrens, esp. Pitch Pine lowlands, road shoulders, and along power line rights-of-way.

The Pinelands Commission included this plant in its original list and has retained it as a protected species, though the official state rank does not place it among species of conservation concern.
