10th Annual Tour de Pines Bicycle Tour
Pedal to Protect the Pines
The 2014 Tour de Pines, sponsored by Pinelands Preservation Alliance, celebrates Pinelands Month in October with five consecutive single day bicycle tours of the New Jersey Pinelands. This year the Tour will run from October 1st to October 5th. Proceeds benefit the Pinelands Preservation Alliance, a nonprofit organization working to protect the resources on New Jersey Pinelands since 1989. There is no other bike ride like this in New Jersey!
Each day’s tour will range from 40-55 miles per day, with average speeds of 11-13 mph, and begin and end at the same location. Cue sheets are provided to all registered riders - allowing riders to go at their own speed. Participants provide their own transportation, food and lodging as this is an unsupported ride.
Participants may elect to ride one, two or all days of the Tour. All rides start at 9:00 a.m.
There is no bicycle tour like this in the state of New Jersey! See the birthplace of the Jersey Devil, NJ’s first state forest (Bass River), have lunch on the mysterious Bridge to Nowhere, ride through acres of pitch pine trees and open space, cross the Great Egg Harbor via the gigantic 9th Street Bridge and much more!
10th Anniversary Party on October 5th
The Tour de Pines started with the passion of one volunteer, Dan Rappoport, and has grown into a movement. We believe that by the time we finish this year’s Tour about 1,686 bicycles will have covered 75,070 miles in the Pinelands!
In celebration of the 10th Anniversary of the Tour de Pines we will host a little party after the final ride on October 5th. Thanks to a generous donation from Pinelands Nursery all attendees of the October 5th ride and/or party will receive a Pinelands native plant of their very own - either a Sweet Pepperbush (Clethra alnifolia) or Swamp Azalea (Rhododendron viscosum). Flying Fish Brewing Company from Somerdale, NJ has generously donated some of their fine craft beer for the festivities!
