McGuire-Fort Dix-Lakehurst Joint Base
McGuire Air Force Base (AFB), Fort Dix, and Naval Air Engineering Station (NAES) Lakehurst, are located within Burlington and Ocean Counties, and have combined to form one Joint Base. The Joint Base encompasses 42,000 acres in the northern portion of the Pinelands.

McGuire Air Force Base
McGuire Air Force Base will be addressing clean-up that is ongoing on the base. There are forty two sites that have been identified for clean-up, 36 of which are located on McGuire Air Force Base and 6 site are located on the BOMARC Missile Facility site. (view sites location map)
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the U. S. Department of the Air Force – (the Parties) – have entered into a Federal Facilities Agreement (Agreement) for the McGuire Air Force Base Superfund Site (the Site) in New Hanover Township, Burlington County, New Jersey.
The Site was placed on EPA’s National Priorities List (NPL) on October 22, 1999. The Agreement was signed by EPA on September 15, 2009. Talks about the stardards they will be useing are ongoing. To read a copy of the agreement click here.
In December of 2014 the EPA wrote Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst a letter stating that Pinelands standards are the ground water standards that would have to be met for cleanup of the OU3 sites (landfills) and be incorporated in the plans for cleanup. On Thursday May 12,2016 at 6 p.m. there will hold a public meeting on the proposed clean-up plan for the Fort Dix Range Landfill. The meeting will be held at the Edward Holloway Senior Citizen and Community Center, Main Street, Cookstown (across from the New Hanover Township Municipal Complex).
The Restoration Advisory Board (RAB) is scheduled to meet every three months to discuss the ongoing clean-up. The next meeting will be held in Thursday, August 13, 2015 at 6:30 pm at the Edward Holloway Senior Citizen Community Center, Cookstown, NJ. This meeting is open to the public. Lakehurst Naval Air Engineering Station
Prior to October 1, 2009 Lakehurst Naval Air had its own RAB meetings. Since October they have a joint RAB meeting with McGurie and Fort Dix. Lakehurst also holds a Technical Review meeting quarterly. The minutes for these meetings are listed below:

In early 2005 the Pinelands Commission amended the Comprehensive Management Plan to allow Fort Dix Consumer Electronics Recycling Center Pilot Program to be authorized as a means to test whether continued operation of the center, if regulated and monitored, would reduce the waste stream to landfills.
This pilot program under these new regulations was to be reviewed every three years to see if the center was successful. The Pinelands Commission staff conducted a review and submitted the attached report to the Pinelands Commission Public and Government committee on Septembe 29, 2009.
