New Jersey Natural Gas Pipeline BPU Case- Key Documents
New Jersey Natural Gas (NJNG) has submitted an application to the NJ Board of Public Utilities and the Pinelands Commission to build a 28-mile long, 30-inch diameter natural gas pipeline through portions of Burlington and Ocean Counties. Review the legal documents associated with ongoing appeals by the Alliance and impacted municipalities here.
The proposed route passes through Chesterfield, North Hanover, Upper Freehold and Plumsted before reaching Route 539, where it turns south and enters the Pinelands and travels through the Joint Base. Before leaving the Base, the route then turns east near the southern boundary of the Base, enters the Borough of Lakehurst and ends in Manchester. You can learn more about the history of this application here.
NJNG has two petitions for the SRL before the BPU. First is a petition stating that this company is a responsible player and that the project meets all federal and state safety requirements. The BPU approved that petition on January 27, 2016.
The second petition before the BPU describes the route the pipeline will take and requests a determination that the SRL is reasonably necessary for the service, convenience or welfare of the public such that the zoning, site plan review and other Municipal Land Use ordinance and regulations along the pipeline’s route will not apply to this project. We expect a ruling on this petition at the March 18, 2016, BPU meeting.
