"Goodwill" ~ Film about Emilio Carranza, "Mexico's Charles Lindbergh,"to be screened at the Toms River Library
Deep in the Pine Barrens over 50 years ago, a dashing young aviator from Mexico crashed during a thunderstorm on a return flight from a goodwill tour. Yet his memory is kept alive every year by the American Legion Post who discovered his remains
This ill-fated moment in New Jersey's history is chronicled by Robert A. Emmons, Jr. in an award-winning film, "Goodwill,"
The event is free and open to the public.
Captain Emilio Carranza, known as the 'Lindbergh of Mexico,' is considered Mexico's greatest aviation hero. His bravery, dedication, and patriotism have inspired people from both countries to honor his legacy. After his death, Mexican children gave their pennies to pay for a monument to their fallen hero.
The Carranza Monument, located in Tabernacle, marks the spot where Captain Carranza's body was found. Every year around the anniversary of his death, members from the Mexican Consulate and the American Legion Post 11 conduct a ceremony in Carranza's honor. It was Post 11 that safeguarded Carranza's remains until they were returned to Mexico.
New Jersey documentary filmmaker Robert A. Emmons, Jr., won "Best NJ Documentary Feature" at the 2008 Garden State Film Festival. In 2009, Mr. Emmons received Mexico's Lindbergh-Carranza Goodwill Award as a "Messenger of Peace". Emmons teaches film, media, and comics history at Rutgers-Camden where he is also the Associate Director of the Honors College. For more information about the artist, visit www.robertemmons.com

On July 12, 1928 one of Mexico's greatest aviators fatally crashed his plane in the New Jersey Pine Barrens.
Captain Emilio Carranza was only 23 years old when he died. His crash occurred during the return trip from of reciprocal goodwill tour in response to his friend Charles Lindbergh...'s visit to Mexico.
The year of his crash the local American Legion Post 11 of Mount Holly, NJ, the group responsible for posting guard over the fallen aviator's body, held a memorial service that has continued for over three quarters of a century.
Goodwill, the documentary film, presents Carranza's life and the legacy he has left in both Mexico and the United States of America. The film goes further as it investigates the differences between Carranza's legacy in these two nations brought on by social, political, and historical factors. Finally, the film is meant to be bring another layer to Carranza and Lindbergh's goal of establishing a lasting goodwill between these two nations
