Drew Becher, President, Pennsylvania Horticultural Society, at Medford Leas
On Saturday, April 16, 2011 at 11:00 AM, Drew Becher, President, Pennsylvania Horticultural Society, will be the guest speaker at the Lewis W. Barton Arboretum Lecture at Medford Leas.
Drew's topic,"Making Philadelphia the Greenest City in the Country",will highlight ways that PHS programs add to the life of Philadelphia.
PHS, the nation's first horticultural society, founded in 1827, motivates and inspires people to improve the quality of life and transform their communities through horticulture. PHS's signature initiatives - Philadelphia Green, Philadelphia International Flower Show and Meadowbrook Farm - uphold a tradition of quality horticulture, sustainable community development, as well as floral and landscape design that inspires gardeners throughout the nation.
This year, PHS programs will provide thousands of underserved city residents with more than 20,000 pounds of fresh produce through the City Harvest program. In addition, PHS will launch TreeVitalize 2020, an initiative to expand the tree canopy across the region, in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Delaware, with the planting of one million trees.
In addition, as producer of the world's largest indoor Flower Show, PHS will continue to bring together the finest floral and landscape designers with a vision to become the world's most influential horticultural event.
Drew will also give an overview of his work leading up to being named PHS president. Please join us in welcoming Drew to the horticulture community in South Jersey.
Light luncheon fare and tours of the Lewis W. Barton Arboretum will follow the lecture. Medford Leas is pleased to welcome you to this special spring event to be held in the Theater at no charge.
