Water - Lifeblood of the Pinelands (2010 Pinelands Lecture Series)
Time & Place
7:00 p.m.
PPA, 17 Pemberton Road, Southampton, NJ 08088
Description: The streams, wetlands and aquifers of the Pinelands are the "green infrastructure" without which the ecosystem would die, agriculture would become impossible, and millions of residents and tourists would lose their water supply. Learn about the region's water resources and how the distinctive nature of Pine Barrens waters sustains the plant and animal communities of this ecosystem. The talk focuses on the interactions between the Kirkwood-Cohansey aquifer and surface waters, and the threats to our water resources from contamination. We also discuss the ways New Jersey and its citizens can protect Pinelands waters to serve both the natural landscape and sustainable human uses.
